  • Allium Gladiator is one of the most impressive ornamental alliums, producing huge globe-shaped flower heads packed with hundreds of star-shaped violet-purple flowers. Held high on strong, sturdy stems, these architectural blooms create a spectacular focal point in borders and attract bees and butterflies throughout late spring and early summer.

Allium Bulbs (Gladiator) - How to Sow

  • See our blog on how to sow and care for bulbs.
  • Choose a sunny planting location.
  • To prepare planting hole:
  • Use a garden hand trowel, dibber or bulb planter.
  • Depth: Approximately 15cm - 20cm deep.
  • Spacing: 20cm - 30cm apart.
  • Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil. Improve heavy soils with horticultural grit or sand to prevent waterlogging.
  • Plant bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
  • Cover with soil and firm gently.
  • Water lightly after planting.
  • Feed with poultry manure or a balanced fertiliser as new growth appears.
  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to replenish the bulbs for the following season.
  • Leave bulbs undisturbed to establish and produce increasingly spectacular displays each year.
