- Grown for their interesting flowers
- Can be forced to bloom any time of year
- To do this, cool plants to 13°C for 8 - 10 weeks
- Plants will flower approx. 8 weeks later
- Indoor plants
Amaryllis Bulbs - How to Sow
- For indoors only
- Grow in a large, sturdy pot
- Plant into John Innes 3 compost
- Position so that ¼ of bulb is above the soil surface
- Position in a well lit spot
- Water directly after planting
- Amaryllis bulbs like moderate moisture levels
- Turn pot regularly for a steady & even growth
Amaryllis Bulbs - Care
- Amaryllis bulbs will flower 8 weeks after sowing
- Plants require a temperature of around 21°C
- Ideally water from beneath into a saucer
- After flowering, cut back flowering stalks
- Shade from direct sunlight in Summer
- Feed throughout the Summer
- Stop feeding by September
- Amaryllis requires a period of cool weather
- 8 - 10 weeks at 13°C (November to mid January)
- This allows the plant to go dormant
- After dormancy, cut back foliage to 10cm from base
- Re-pot every 2 to 3 years
