Aquilegia Roots - How to Sow

  • Allows best to start your bulbs indoors, in a greenhouse or polytunnel
  • Grow in large pots (5L or bigger)
  • Once shoots are 10cm in height you can move out into the garden
  • Sow roots just below soil level. Approx. 10cm deep
  • Before planting outside, prepare bed by digging over soil
  • Remove all weeds, stone & roots
  • Add some fertilizer or manure
  • Soak soil well after planting
  • Aquilegia is hardy & will come back year after year
  • Aquilegia will also self-seed & spread

  • They are a great & easy method of plant propagation
  • They are easy to store & ship
  • Roots can be sown in Winter / Spring for Summer flowers

  • When planting roots, it is important to handle with care
    • Don't allow roots to dry out
    • Plant the moment they arrive
    • Soak roots for 10 minutes before planting
    • If possible plant with crown pointing upwards
    • Plant roots roughly 5-10 cm below soil level
    • Firm in well
