Aster Roots - Uses
- Asters are a great plant for any garden
- Use Asters for their showy flowers all Summer
- Clump forming plants give structure to herbaceous borders
- Use as an in-filler between larger shrubs
- Sometimes used to form a low hedge
- Suitable for cut flower garden
- Purple flowering Aster companion plants: Verbena, Eryngium, Alliums, Echinacea, Pennisetum hameln or other grasses
Aster Roots - How to Sow
- Always best to start your bulbs indoors, in a greenhouse or polytunnel
- Grow in large pots (5L or bigger)
- Once shoots are 10cm in height you can move out into the garden
- Best in a sunny spot to partial shade
- Soil: Most soil types
- Sowing Depth: Approx. 10cm deep
- Water well before & after planting
- Ensure plants don't dry out in drought periods
- Divide clumps in Autumn every 3 or 4 years
- Plants will last many years
- Stake plants late in the season
- Cut back once all flowers have faded
- Cut down to ground level
Note
- Very Important: Roots need to be kept moist at all times
- Plant as soon as your parcel arrives, or keep moist by storing in damp newspaper
- Soak again before planting & water in well after planting
