Astilbe Roots - How to Sow

  • Best to start your bulbs indoors, in a greenhouse or polytunnel
  • Grow in large pots (5L or bigger)
  • Once shoots are 10cm in height you can move out into the garden
  • Treat roots with care & do not allow dry out
  • Soak prior to planting
  • Choose location: Sunny or part shade
  • Soil: Damp, clay soil
  • If soil is not very wet or is free draining then place a layer of polyethylene in the base of the planting hole, approx. 50cm below soil level
  • This will help to retain moisture around the plant's roots
  • Water well after planting
  • Dead head spent flowers to encourage repeat blooms
  • Divide clumps in Autumn after 3 or 4 years

Excellent all around. Received the root in good condition and promptly. Planted into a pot the next day (after soaking the root first for few hours) and it sprouts within few days after planting. Absolutely brilliant!
