Bat Box - Where to Position
- These protected mammals have lost many roosts in recent years
- This box needs to be positioned up high
- Ideally between 2.5m to 5m high
- Best on a building or mature tree
- Best aspect: North, South West or South East
- Only partial sun is best
- If it is on an existing feeding or flight route you are more likely to get occupation
- Never disturb a bat box to check for activity, look for mouse-sized droppings beneath the box
- Observe bat box from a distance at dusk to see if bats are exiting the box to hunt
