Where to Plant
Plant Darwin Hybrid Yellow tulips in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Good drainage is particularly important during the winter months, as tulip bulbs do not perform well in waterlogged conditions.
Plant groups of bulbs in borders and flower beds to create a strong block of yellow spring colour. Their upright growth also makes them suitable for planting among lower-growing spring flowers.
How to Plant
Plant tulip bulbs in autumn, with the pointed end facing upwards. As a general guide, plant the bulbs around two to three times their own height deep and approximately 10 to 15cm apart.
For containers, use good-quality bulb or multipurpose compost and ensure the container has adequate drainage. Plant several bulbs together for a fuller and more impressive display.
Growing and Care
Water after planting if conditions are dry. During spring, water during prolonged dry periods, particularly when growing tulips in containers.
After flowering, remove the spent flowers if desired but allow the foliage to remain until it has naturally yellowed and died back. The leaves help replenish the bulb's energy reserves for the following season.
Planting Ideas
The bright yellow flowers of Darwin Hybrid Yellow create a strong focal point in spring borders. Combine with white, purple or blue flowering bulbs for contrasting colour, or plant in groups for a bold standalone display.
These tulips are also excellent for containers around patios, entrances and seating areas where their large flowers can be enjoyed at close range.
