Canna Indica - How to Sow

  • Requires warm conditions to germinate
  • Start in a heated greenhouse in March
  • Set temp. to 10-15°C
  • Plant out into garden in late May. Harden off first
  • Position in a sunny location
  • Grow best in free draining soil, high in fertility
  • Mulch around the base of plants after sowingNote
  • Very Important: Roots need to be kept moist at all times
  • Plant as soon as your parcel arrives, or keep moist by storing in damp newspaper
  • Soak again before planting & water in well after planting

Canna Indica - Overwintering

  • Plants need to be stored indoors over Winter
  • Lift plants once foliage dies back in Autumn
  • Keep canna bulbs in pots in compost
  • Store in a cool & dry place - A dark shed is suitable
  • In March / April replant bulbs in pots
  • Cut away old dead foliage
  • Plant into fresh, rich compost
  • Place in a warm spot in your greenhouse
  • Water in well
  • Plant out into the garden in late May - Harden off first
  • Divide larger roots in Spring & plant as discussed above
