  • Indoor grown seedlings & seedlings grown in seed beds will require transplanting later
  • Transplant seedlings once they have developed the 4 /5 true leaves

  • Space seedlings in 15cm in rows. Space rows 20cm apart
  • Soil: A rich soil is perfect for lettuce
  • However lettuce also does well in average soil
  • Doesn't like acidic soil. Keep ph below 6.5
  • Well drained with plenty of humus is preferred
  • The site should be open to full sunshine
  • Suitable for raised beds or pots

Crop Maintenance

  • Ensure seedlings are kept moist at all times
  • Keep rows weeded
  • Lettuce is known to bolt in hot weather - Best to avoid mid summer crops

Harvesting

  • Water well the week before harvest
  • Harvest as soon as lettuce heads are large enough
  • Take lettuce heads early in the morning for optimum flavor and crispness
  • Harvest is over when the central stem starts to form

Storage

  • Lettuce will keep in the fridge for a few days
  • Best to harvest lettuce when you need it, does not keep well

Pests & Diseases
