Where to Plant
Plant Crocus Jeanne D Arc in a sunny or lightly shaded position with well-drained soil. Crocuses are particularly useful beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, in rockeries and along the front of borders.
For a natural effect, plant groups of bulbs through lawns or grassed areas. They can also be grown successfully in pots and containers where their early spring flowers provide welcome seasonal colour.
How to Plant
Plant crocus bulbs in autumn, ideally before the ground becomes too cold. Choose well-drained soil and plant the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. As a general guide, plant bulbs around 5 to 8cm deep and approximately 5 to 8cm apart.
For natural-looking displays, avoid planting bulbs in rigid rows. Plant them in small groups or scatter them over the planting area and plant where they land.
Growing and Care
Water after planting if conditions are dry. Once established, crocuses generally require little maintenance and can return year after year in suitable growing conditions.
After flowering, allow the foliage to remain until it has naturally yellowed and died back. This allows the leaves to replenish the bulb's energy reserves for the following season. Avoid mowing naturalised crocuses until the foliage has had time to die back naturally.
Planting Ideas
Combine Crocus Jeanne D Arc with other spring bulbs such as snowdrops, daffodils and early flowering tulips. Its white flowers work particularly well beneath trees, through lawns, at the front of borders and alongside evergreen planting.
