  • Crocus Species 'Ruby Giant' is a vigorous, award-winning variety producing elegant violet-purple flowers with bright orange stamens. One of the earliest bulbs to flower, it provides a welcome splash of colour while attracting bees and other early pollinators.

Crocus Bulbs - How to Sow

  • See our blog on how to sow and care for bulbs.
  • Choose a sunny or lightly shaded planting location.
  • To prepare planting hole:
  • Use a garden hand trowel, dibber or bulb planter.
  • Depth: Approximately 7cm - 10cm deep.
  • Spacing: 5cm - 8cm apart.
  • Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil. Improve heavy clay soils with horticultural grit or sand if required.
  • Plant bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
  • Cover with soil and firm gently.
  • Water well after planting.
  • Feed with a balanced bulb fertiliser once foliage appears if required.
  • Allow leaves to die back naturally after flowering to replenish the bulbs.
  • Leave bulbs undisturbed to naturalise and multiply over future seasons.
