Daffodil Bulbs - How to Sow

  • See our blog on how to sow and care for bulbs.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded planting location.
  • To prepare planting hole:
  • Use a garden hand trowel, dibber or bulb planter.
  • Depth: Approximately 10cm - 15cm deep.
  • Spacing: 10cm - 15cm apart.
  • Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil. Improve heavy soils with horticultural grit or sand where drainage is poor.
  • Plant bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
  • Cover with soil and firm gently.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.
  • Feed with poultry manure or a balanced bulb fertiliser as foliage begins to emerge.
  • Allow the leaves to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following season.
  • Leave bulbs undisturbed to naturalise and provide increasingly impressive displays each spring.
