Damson Tree - Planting Instructions

Planting Time

  • Plant as soon as possible
  • Bare root planting season is October to March
  • Do not plant in frozen ground

Positioning Trees

  • Damsons like a warm spot that is sheltered from the wind
  • Either a south or west facing site is most ideal
  • Avoid shaded, exposed areas & frost pockets
  • Prepare planting hole adding farm yard manure
  • Spread roots and ensure plant's root ball is at the right depth
  • Because damsons are prolific fruiters, you should only require one or 2 trees

After Care

  • Water bare roots before planting - soak for 10 minutes
  • Water again after planting
  • If dry weather persists, water every 2 days
  • Weeding is also essential, especially bind weed which can quickly smoother a young tree
  • After 2 years, check the tree stakes to ensure they are not too tight around the tree

Brilliant service. It arrived in perfect condition. I planted it and it is growing v well. The tree was sturdier and taller than I expected on arrival. I would definitely recommend this company.
I could not believe how quickly the order arrived, well packed and ready to plant.
Thanks
The rootstock is not 'M9' but 'Colt' which usually has a final height of 3.5m - 5m. Gardenshop are probably updating the info but I thought it would be useful place the comment here until it is changed.
