Vegetable Starter Kit - How to use
Growing medium
- Begin in mid February or early March
- Mix the perlite with compost at ratio of 1 part perlite to 3 parts compost
- Add compost to peat pots, compact lightly & level
Alternatively use growing pellets
- Place pellets in water - until they expand
- 1 pellet has sufficient growing medium for one 5cm cell
Sowing seeds
- Moisten the compost using water & pressure sprayer
- Place seeds as per individual seed requirements (regarding depth & spacing)
- Lightly cover seeds with compost & water lightly with pressure sprayer
Setting up starter kit
- Place the peat pots on to the base of the standard tray
- Place tray in a bright, warm location
- Kitchen windowsill
- Mini greenhouse
- Polytunnel or greenhouse
Vegetable Starter Kit - General Care of Seedlings
Watering
- Simply pour water into the base tray
- Water 2 times a week
- Ensure that compost is moist but not soaked
Transplanting
- By early April
- Once your seedlings are large enough to handle & the weather is suitably warm
- Transplant into prepared vegetable plot
- Spacing, depth & specific soil conditions vary depending on vegetable
