Ericaceous Compost - Notes

  • Asses your garden soil to determine it's pH before choosing which plants to grow
  • If you soil is alkaline then you should avoid acid loving plants
  • But if you wish to grow some acid loving plants then use ericaceous compost
  • You can use this compost with your garden soil
  • Another way to make your soil more acid is to
    • Add ammonium sulphate
    • Mulch around plants with pine needles
  • Soils in the midlands of Ireland are generally alkaline
  • Soils in the south west of Ireland are generally acidic
