Field Maple Tree - Characteristics

• Deciduous native tree with a naturally spreading growth habit
• Deep green leaves with distinctive rounded and bluntly lobed shapes
• Foliage develops attractive yellow to reddish tones in autumn
• Develops a broad, spreading and rounded canopy when mature
• Bark becomes darker and develops fissures with age
• Can reach approximately 20m in height if left to grow naturally

Field Maple Tree - Planting Instructions

Planting Time

• Bare root trees should be planted during the dormant season from October to March.
• Avoid planting when the ground is frozen or during severe frosty conditions.
• Plant as soon as possible after receiving the trees.

Positioning Trees

• Position in full sun or partial shade.
• Choose fertile, well-drained soil where possible.
• Field Maple is adaptable but performs particularly well in neutral to alkaline soils.
• Prepare a suitable planting hole large enough to accommodate the roots without bending or crowding them.
• Position the tree at approximately the same depth as it was previously growing.
• Backfill with suitable topsoil and firm the soil carefully around the roots.
• Ensure the tree is straight and level off the soil around the base.
• Water thoroughly after planting.
• Support young trees with a suitable stake and tree tie while they establish.

After Care

• Water thoroughly before and after planting.
• Water regularly during the first growing seasons until the tree is established.
• Keep grass and competing weeds away from the base of the tree.
• Weed regularly, particularly around young trees.
• Weed membrane and mulch can be used to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.
