The Business of Food - Summary

  • The business of food course is a combination of a classroom elements giving a history of food, the economics of the industry, and rise of food Apps. This is followed by a chance for the students to work in SOLAS production kitchen.

Module #1: The Business of Food - Classroom Element

  • Talk on food management, sustainability and the workings of a modern kitchen. It covers the rise of food from hunter gathers, agriculture, changing diets and the economics of fresh, sustainable and local food as well the importance of Food Apps.

Module #2: The Business of Food - Working in a Production kitchen

  • Hands on experience preparing food in a production kitchen from ingredients to cook to tasting the finished product and getting feedback from our food experts and fellow classmates.

Lunch (40 Minutes)

  • Finish with Lunch in the SOLAS Food Court with Pizzas for students and a choice from menu for school teachers included as part of the course package

  • Cost: Course costs from €17 to €20 per student depending on Group size

Format of the Day

  • See below typical timetable for the running of courses depending on whether students are attending a 1 or 2 courses in a single day. Note we are flexible on start and finish times and can start courses from 8.30am onwards to suit bus pickup times.
  • Single Course: Arrive 10:50am, Course 11-1.15pm, Lunch, Depart 1.45pm
  • 2 Courses: Arrive 9am, Course #1 9-11.30am, Lunch, Course #2 12-2.30pm, Depart
