- Galanthus elwesii, commonly known as the Giant Snowdrop, is a vigorous early-flowering variety producing large, elegant white nodding flowers with distinctive green markings on the inner petals. Flowering from late winter into early spring, it is one of the first bulbs to bloom, bringing welcome colour to the garden while providing an important nectar source for early pollinators.

Snowdrop Bulbs - How to Sow

- Choose a partially shaded or lightly sunny planting location.
- To prepare planting hole:
- Use a garden hand trowel, dibber or bulb planter.
- Depth: Approximately 8cm - 10cm deep.
- Spacing: 8cm - 10cm apart.
- Soil: Moist, fertile, humus-rich and well-drained soil. Improve heavy soils with compost or horticultural grit if required.
- Plant bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
- Cover with soil and firm gently.
- Water after planting if conditions are dry.
- Feed with poultry manure or a balanced fertiliser once foliage begins to emerge.
- Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can store energy for the following season.
- Leave bulbs undisturbed to naturalise and develop into impressive flowering colonies.
