Cut & Sow Wildflower Seeds - How to Sow

  1. Can be difficult to establish if careful preparation is not followed
  2. Lawns need to cut back to bare soil level. 'zero grazed' levels. Grass roots will be under the soil waiting to grow
  3. Weed out heavy glass clumps & swards
  4. Weed out white clover, dock, thistle & couch grass
  5. Once cut down to the 'scut' Rake/harrow the ground to scratch the surface, sometimes easier said than done,
  6. Sow the seed as soon as you can, while the grass is below soil
  7. Rake, Roll or press the seed into the ground.

  • Wait for grass to re-emerge, then cut down to 10cm to 14cm
  • Cuts per year: 3 to 5 cuts per year depending on fertility
