Kumquat Tree - Planting Instructions

Positioning Kumquat Trees

  • Kumquat trees like a light potting compost
  • Mediterranean plants, so prefer good drainage
  • Best to grow in full sun, at least 6 hours of sun each day
  • We recommend growing in pots & turning these pots every few days to maximize light
  • To ensure a good harvest, grow in greenhouses
  • The next best location woudl be a conservatory
  • Happiest in temperatures between 18 - 24°C
  • You can also grow them in pots & move outside in Summer
  • Provide good drainage
  • Avoid shaded, exposed areas & frost pockets

After Care

  • Water plants when they arrive
  • Water again after planting
  • Water potted Kumquats every 2 weeks

Feed in Spring & throughout the Summer months

Harvest

  • Harvest when fruits turn orange
  • Fruits can be left on tree for several weeks

Pollination

  • Note: if you keep your tree indoors at all times then it will require pollination
  • This is due to lack of insects or bees indoors
  • You can pollinate by brushing the flowers with a light paint brush
  • This will spread the pollen from flower to flower
