Tulip Bulbs - How to Sow
- See our blog on how to sow and care for bulbs.
- Choose a sunny or partially shaded planting location.
- To prepare planting hole:
- Use a garden hand trowel, dibber or bulb planter.
- Depth: Approximately 10cm - 12cm deep.
- Spacing: 8cm - 10cm apart.
- Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil. Improve heavy soils with horticultural grit or sand if drainage is poor.
- Plant bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
- Cover with soil and firm gently.
- Water thoroughly after planting.
- Feed with poultry manure or a balanced liquid fertiliser once foliage appears.
- Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
- Leave bulbs in the ground to naturalise or lift, clean, dry and store after the foliage has completely withered if required.
