Lobelia Plant - Characteristics
- Habit: Erect, clump-forming herbaceous perennial
- Foliage: Turning deep red, burgundy in colour
- Flowers: Brilliant scarlet, two-lipped flowers, 5cm in length in terminal spikes
- Dies back in Winter but comes back every Spring
- Flowering Period: May to September
- Foliage: Deeply lobed leaves add to plant's interest
Lobelia Plant - Planting Instructions
- Lobelia prefer a damp or heavy soil
- They grow well in poorly drained soils
- Position in full sun or part shade
- Before planting, soak pot for about 3 minutes before planting
- Dig hole roughly twice the size of the plant pot
- Handle pots with care
- Carefully squeeze side of pots to remove plant
- Position plant in the ground so that the top of root ball is level with existing soil level
- Firm in well
- Soak soil well after planting
- Cut back clumps after flowers die back
- To encourage blooms, deadhead as required
- Benefits from addition of a phosphorus based fertiliser
