Daffodil Bulbs - Uses

  • Daffodils are among the earliest flowers to brighten the spring garden.
  • Ideal for borders, beds, containers and rockeries.
  • Perfect for naturalising in lawns, woodland areas and beneath deciduous trees.
  • Plant in groups or drifts for the most striking display.
  • Excellent for cottage gardens and public displays.
  • Provides an important early nectar source for pollinators.
  • Makes an excellent cut flower for indoor arrangements.
  • Returns year after year with very little maintenance.

Daffodil Bulbs - How to Sow

  • See our blog on how to sow and care for bulbs.
  • Choose a sunny or partially shaded planting location.
  • To prepare planting hole:
  • Use a garden hand trowel, dibber or bulb planter.
  • Depth: Approximately 10cm - 15cm deep.
  • Spacing: 10cm - 15cm apart.
  • Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil. Improve heavy soils with horticultural grit or sand if necessary.
  • Plant bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
  • Cover with soil and firm gently.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.
  • Feed with poultry manure or a balanced bulb fertiliser as new growth appears.
  • Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to help bulbs store energy for the following season.
  • Established bulbs can remain in the ground for many years and will naturalise over time.
