Potted Penstemon Plant - Characteristics
- Medium height herbaceous perennial
- Flower colour: Deep purple with white centre
- Tubular, drooping blooms appear along tall flowering stems
- A blast of colour all Summer long
- Flowering from June to October
- Dies back in Winter but comes back every Spring
- Habit: Clump forming with upright flowering stems
- Final height: 60cm
Potted Penstemon Plant - Planting Instructions
- Penstemons prefer good fertile soils
- Ideal in well drained, but moist soils
- To encourage strong growth add farmyard manure & compost the base of the planting hole
- Before planting, soak pot for about 3 minutes before planting
- Dig hole roughly twice the size of the plant pot
- Handle pots with care
- Carefully squeeze side of pots to remove plant
- Position plant in the ground so that the top of root ball is level with existing soil level
- Firm in well
- Soak soil well after planting
- Little maintenance required after that point
- To encourage blooms, deadhead as required
- Benefits from a phosphorus based fertiliser
