Raspberry Canes - Planting Instructions
Planting Time
- Plant the moment they arrive
- Bare Root plants, can only be sold & planted in the dormant season
- Avoid frosty conditions, where the ground is frozen
Positioning Raspberry Canes
- Raspberry canes will spread each year
- It is important to choose a space where the plant has room to grow
- If you wish to restrict the plant's spread, then you should consider using root barriers
- Spacing: 45cm apart in rows 120cm apart
- Raspberries requires a sunny position
- Grow in free draining soil
- Prefer acidic soils
- Can be grown in containers
- Fill planting hole with manure prior to planting
- When planting - hold plants at ground level & back fill the top soil
- Ensure each plant is straight & soil is compacted in around it's root ball
- Level off the soil around the plants
- To harvest, cut away entire bunches of fruit as they turn red
After Care
- Water bare roots plants regularly until plants establish
- Water before & after planting
- If dry weather persists, water every 2 days
- Weeding is also essential
Cutting Back
- Cut back after harvest in Autumn
- Prune canes down to ground level
- Confine each plant to a spread of 50cm
