Swede Plug Plants - How to Grow
- Sow outside from March onwards
- Spacing for swede plugs: 25cm
- Rows: 30cm apart
- Ensure plugs are moist before planting
- Take care when removing plugs from trays
- Using a hand trowel, make a small planting hole for each plug
- Plant into prepared soil & firm in well
- Site: Choose an open, sunny site
- Soil: Swedes like a deep, fertile soil
- Ideally prepare your soil in Autumn

- Harvest when roots are approx. 10cm above ground level
- Harvest when root tops have turned purple
- Harvest period: August to February
- Best when harvested after frost
- Weed around crops early to control weeds
- Ensure a regular watering of crops
- Pests to watch out for include clubroot
- Rotate in the same group as brassicas
