  • Bulk bags & large orders are shipped via pallet couriers on a rigid lorry
  • Delivery is to kerbside only (see DOWNLOAD Tab)
  • If road access to your site is tight, then please advise us before purchasing
  • Please Note: We cannot guarantee next day delivery on pallet deliveries
  • Also, we cannot guarantee delivery on a specific day (Please allow 1-3 days for delivery)
  • It's always best to order well in advance to avoid disappointment
  • Cancellation of pallets when items are already in transit will incur a 40 euro per pallet cancellation fee (To cover return delivery costs)

Dicksonia Antarctica - Caring for Tree after Delivery

  • Frond Size Varies with time of Year
    • In Winter, Spring & Early Summer Tree Ferns will have Fronds Removed
    • In Summer / Late Summer Foliage / Fronds will be Tied up for Delivery
  • If your Tree Fern Arrives without Fronds Don't Worry, these will quickly develop
  • Inspect the crown of your ferns, where you can feel the start of new fronds curled up & ready to shoot out
  • On delivery of your ferns ensure to water well
  • Water the crown of your trees every second day until the fronds develop
  • These New Fronds won’t be Long Showing up & Bringing their Wonderful, Tropical Charm to your Garden
  • Tree Ferns can go from no Visible Fronds to Full canopy within a 3 to 4 Week Period

Dicksonia Antarctica - Characteristics

  • Dicksonia Antarctica is native of Australia, New Zealand & Tasmanian
  • These trees are shipped from Australia to the UK & then to Ireland
  • Mature size: 3m to 5m in height
  • Deciduous shrub, they loose their leaves in Winter
  • Foliage: New fronds unfurl in Spring
  • Large fern fronds develop in early Summer
  • Fronds at maturity can reach 3m in spread

Tree Fern Trunk - Planting Instructions

When to Plant

  • Can be plant can be planted all year round
  • Best to sow as soon as they arrive
  • Avoid frosty conditions, where the ground is frozen

Positioning Tree Ferns

  • Try to mimic the conditions of a forest undergrowth
  • Shaded, moist & rich in organic matter
  • Grow outdoors in a moist but well-drained humus-rich soil
  • Note: These plants don't have a root system, just a trunk
  • This trunk should be planted approx.15cm deep
  • When planting, hold plants at ground level & back fill the top soil
  • Ensure each plant is straight & soil is compacted around the trunk
  • Level off the soil around the plants

After Care

  • Water before & after planting
  • In hot Summers water the stem
  • Best not to cut back the dying fronds in Autumn
  • Leave fronds in place over winter
  • This will provide added insulation & ensures a stronger frond in the following year
  • In Winter avoid watering the crown
  • In Winter pack frost fleece around the crown to protect the growing points
  • Note: In year 2 these trees can suffer shock. Growth can be stunted
  • They will recover in year 3
  • Tree fern trunks can be fed once a week between April & September
