Where to Plant Tulip Holland Queen
Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Tulips perform best where excess moisture can drain away, particularly during the dormant winter period.
Holland Queen is suitable for flower borders and beds, where planting several bulbs together will create a stronger visual impact. It can also be planted in containers on patios, terraces and balconies.

How to Plant Tulip Holland Queen Bulbs
- Planting Time: Autumn
- Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil.
- Remove weeds and loosen compacted soil before planting.
- Plant the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards.
- Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, or around two to three times the height of the bulb.
- Space bulbs approximately 10–15cm apart depending on the desired planting effect.
- Cover with soil and water thoroughly after planting.
- Allow the bulbs to experience the cooler autumn and winter conditions before spring growth begins.
Growing and Care
Tulips are relatively easy to grow when planted in suitable conditions. Newly planted bulbs should be watered after planting, while established plants generally require little additional watering unless conditions become particularly dry.
During the growing season, water container-grown tulips when the compost becomes dry, taking care not to leave the bulbs sitting in excess water.
Once the flowers have faded, deadhead the spent blooms if desired. Allow the foliage to remain green and die back naturally, as the leaves help the bulb store energy for future growth.
Do not cut down the foliage while it is still green. Once it has naturally yellowed and died back, it can be removed.
