Planting Tulip Pretty Woman
Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September onwards, before the ground becomes too cold or wet. Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position with well drained soil and some shelter from strong winds.
Plant the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards at approximately 10 to 15cm deep. Space the bulbs around 10 to 15cm apart, or plant them more closely in groups for a stronger display.
Growing and Care
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Once growing, ensure the plants receive adequate moisture during dry periods while avoiding waterlogged conditions.
After flowering, remove the faded flower heads to prevent unnecessary seed production. Allow the foliage to remain until it has naturally yellowed and died back, as the leaves help replenish the bulb for the following season.
Garden Uses
Pretty Woman looks particularly effective when planted in groups through spring borders and beds. It is also well suited to pots and containers on patios and terraces.
Its strong red colouring works well alongside white, cream, pink or contrasting purple spring flowers. The elegant blooms are also suitable for cutting and displaying indoors.
Important Information
Tulip bulbs can be harmful if eaten and may cause skin irritation. Wear gloves when handling bulbs and keep them away from children and pets.
