Narcissus Ice Follies is a reliable large-cupped daffodil known for its elegant white flowers and distinctive broad cup. The flowers open with a soft primrose-yellow cup which gradually fades towards creamy white as the bloom matures, creating a refined spring display.

This vigorous perennial bulb is an excellent choice for Irish gardens, returning year after year when planted in suitable conditions. Ice Follies is also valued for its ability to naturalise, making it ideal for planting in groups through borders, lawns, informal areas and beneath trees and shrubs.

Planting Narcissus Ice Follies

Plant the bulbs in autumn, ideally from September onwards. Choose a position with full sun or light partial shade and soil that drains well while retaining some moisture during the growing season.

Plant the bulbs at approximately two to three times the height of the bulb, with the pointed end facing upwards. Allow sufficient space between bulbs to give the plants room to establish and form attractive clumps.

Growing and Care

Water the bulbs after planting if the soil is dry. Once established, Narcissus Ice Follies is relatively low maintenance. Remove faded flowers if desired, but allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering. The leaves are needed to replenish the bulb and help provide flowers in future seasons.

Established clumps can be left undisturbed for several years. If they become overcrowded, lift and divide the bulbs once the foliage has naturally died back.

Naturalising and Garden Uses

Ice Follies is particularly well suited to naturalising. Plant groups through lawns, informal borders, woodland-style areas or beneath deciduous shrubs and trees for a natural spring display. It also performs well in traditional flower borders and containers.

The attractive flowers can also be used as cut flowers, bringing fresh spring colour indoors.
