Wollemi Pine - Description
- Potted Wollemi Pine

- A surviving plant from the age of the dinosaurs, existing over 200 million yeas ago
- Thought to be extinct until 1994 when it was rediscovered in Wollemi National Park,FOs Australia
- Can be gown into a tall tree or pruned to desired shape

Wollemi Pine - Characteristics
- Habit: Bushy, multi-stemmed (coppicing)
- Foliage:
- Juvenile: Frond-like, apple-green foliage
- Mature: 'Jurassic like' with two rows of leaves
- In colder months: foliage has a warm, bronze appearnce
- Cones: Grows both male and female cones on seperate branches
- Bubbling bark develops as the tree matures
- Polar caps: During winter the Wollemi becomes dormant and gowing tips are protected by caps
Wollemi Pine - Planting Instructions
- Can be grown in a container (inside or outside)
- Can be planted directly into the ground
- Recommended to use reduced peat or peat free compost
- Ensure containers have a drainage hole
- Staking should not be necessary but in a windy location, a stake and tie can be used.
- Will not tolerate over watering
- Water by saturating the plant when the top 5cm in the pot becomes dry
- Growth is easily controlled but can be accelerated by applying fertiliser to the top surface twice a year.
Wollemi Pine - Uses / Location
- Outdoors, choose a well lit location, not exposed to full sun in summer
- If the tree stands outside during winter choose a sheltered position
- If kept indoors, place in very well-lit location, out of full sun
- wil grow happily in a location with a pH range 4.5-7
