Wormery - Uses

  • Junior wormery is ideal for small gardens
  • Perfect for balconies, flats or studios
  • Used for composing organic household waste
  • Note: Do not add meat, fish or animal waste

Wormery - Advantages

  • Wormery produces liquid plant feed
    • Liquid feed is produced more quickly than compost
    • Can be used around 6-8 weeks
  • Wormery produces vermicompost
    • Vermicompost is a rich nutrient-rich fertiliser
    • Will be ready to use 8-10 months

Wormery - What Can Be Added

Wormery is designed to deal with kitchen-generated organic food waste

Green Material

  • Household: Fruit / vegetables scraps, cooked / uncooked scrapes, eggshells,
  • Tea bags & coffee grounds, peelings, bread
  • Garden: Odd handful of leaves, grass or similar garden waster

Brown Material

  • Household: Dampened egg boxes, Kitchen paper towel, crumpled single sheets of newspaper

Do not Include

  • Glossy magazines
  • Onions, leeks or citrus (They make wormery too acidic)

Wormery - Advice

  • Sit wormery is safe location
    • Countertop or out in the garden on a brick wall or table
  • Only add a handful of food waste in the first week (worms take a little time to settle)
    • After a week check how much food has been digested
    • Apart colder weather the worms should be active
    • Worms rely on food decomposing slightly
  • For the first 2-3 months only add 1-2 handful of food waste a week
  • Worms take 3 months to mature & start breeding
  • Then your wormery will be established
  • Wormery will be then able to deal with 1-2 persons kitchen waste
  • Turn your compost every now & then to keep good airflow
  • Check the moist levels weekly
  • Drain liquid by using the tap (dilute 1 part liquid with 10 parts water)
  • Please read attached instruction carefully
