Sowing Instructions
- Sowing Time: Mid spring. Important that seeds are kept warm
- Sowing Location: Indoors, under cover & grow in greenhouse
- Sow in 9cm pots, sowing 1 seed per pot, soaking compost
- Sow seeds 2cm deep, placing seed vertically in compost
- Place pots in a heated propagator, setting to 21°C
- Keep pots moist at all times
Transplant
- Harden of your courgettes by acclimatising to the cold by leaving outside for a few hours a day
- Transplant young seedlings into greenhouse soil
- Space 90cm apart
- Dig a planting hole about a foot square and fill it with compost or rotted manure
- Create a soil mound around the base of each transplanted plant
- Can be grown in grow bags. Grow 2 per grow bag
- Soil: Courgettes like well drained and very fertile soil
- Improve the soil by digging in some compost or manure
- When preparing soil, it is recommended that you add a general fertiliser such as growmore or poultry manure
Crop Maintenance
- Don’t over water until courgettes begin to grow
- Once outside courgettes are easy to grow, remember to keep watered once growing
- Adding a liquid feed will encourage further growth
- Support by training up a bamboo cane
- Protect from slugs
How to Harvest
- Harvest courgettes 3 times a week to keep up production
- Pick of courgettes when they are 10-15cm long
- Use a sharp knife to cut off fruit, never break off with your hands
Storage
- Courgettes should be covered and placed in the fridge for up to two days
- To freeze courgettes slice into rounds and blanch for 2 minutes
- Place into ice cold water for a further 3 minutes
- In the freezer courgettes can keep for up to 12 months

- Damage: Slugs destroy seedlings by eating them
