Daylily Roots (Hemerocallis) - How to Sow

  • It is always best to start your bulbs indoors, in a greenhouse or polytunnel
  • Grow in large pots (5L or bigger)
  • Once shoots are 10cm in height you can move out into the garden
  • Choose a sunny spot for your dalylily roots
  • They don't flower well in shade
  • Sow roots once they arrive
  • If risk of frost, you can plant into pots & start in greenhouse until growing season begins
  • Ensure they get adequate water by soaking before & after planting
  • Sow roots approx. 10cm deep
  • Daylilies require little maintenance
  • They don't need dead heading
  • They can be divided every 4 or 5 years. Best done in early Spring
  • Day lilies will benefit from supports & staking in Autumn
