Globe Artichoke Crowns - Planting Instructions
- Can start in large 10 litre pots in Feb / March
- Plant out from late April
- When sowing, position artichoke crowns just below soil surface
- When planting outside, locate in a sunny spot in well drained soil
- Artichokes require good, fertile soil
- Depth of crown: Plant so that top of crown is 1" or 4cm below ground level
- Spacing: 60 - 90cm between plants
- Mulch up around plants to prevent weeds
- Feed in Spring
- Perennial plants, can be harvested year after year
- Plants will last approx. 7 years before declining in yield
- Harvest in July before buds start to open
- Ideally when approx. the size of a golf ball
