Agapanthus Roots - How to Grow

  • Always best to start your bulbs indoors, in a greenhouse or polytunnel
  • Grow in large pots (5L or bigger)
  • Once shoots are 10cm in height you can move out into the garden
  • Choose a location for your Agapanthus
  • They prefer a sunny, sheltered spot
  • Soil: Moist but well drained
  • Sowing time: Spring
  • Sowing depth: Plant roots 10cm below the soil surface
  • Plant with compost
  • Then cover with soil & water in well
  • Feed every 2 to 3 weeks
  • Can lift & divide in Spring
  • May require protection in harsh Winters - cover with mulch

Note

  • A root is similar to a bulb in that it is a dormant growing point of a plant
  • Also known as Rhizomes
  • Very Important: Roots need to be kept moist at all times
  • Plant as soon as your parcel arrives, or keep moist by storing in damp newspaper
  • Soak again before planting & water in well after planting
