Aster Roots - Uses
- Grown for their long lasting colour
- Asters form clumps of foliage & a profusion of colour throughout the Summer
- Position towards front & centre of flower beds
- Can be used as in-filler plant between low shrubs
- Also used to form a low growing hedge
- Suitable for cut flower garden
- Aster Apollo companion plants: Plant with tall grasses, Verbena, Eryngium, Alliums or Rudeckia for an interesting planting scheme
Aster Roots - How to Sow
- Best to start your bulbs indoors, in a greenhouse or polytunnel
- Grow in large pots (5L or bigger)
- Once shoots are 10cm in height you can move out into the garden
- Choose a sunny location
- Ensure soil is well draining & high in nutrients
- Sow roots approx. 10cm deep
- Water well after planting
- Divide clumps in Autumn every 3 or 4 years

- Plant the moment they arrive
- Soak roots for 10 minutes before planting
- If possible plant with crown pointing upwards
- Plant roots roughly 5-10 cm below soil level
