Garden Lime - Uses
Lime has been used to improved soils for many years
- Add to acidic soils to increase pH (Make more alkaline)
- Most vegetables require a neutral pH (7 pH) to grow well
- Most garden plants prefer a higher pH (7+ pH / alkaline soil) to grow well
- Also used to improve soil structure
- Aids soil particles to bind together improving soil crumb structure
- Improve soils 'workability'
- Improves the workability of heavy clay soils
- Improves nutrient uptake ability of soils (allows plants absorb soil nutrients easily)
- Used to feed plants - Contains Calcium & Magnesium both essential nutrients for plants
- Add to Cabbage plants to prevent Clubroot

Garden Lime - Application
- Different soils require different application rates of lime
- Both soil pH & soil texture will determine application rates
- First test your soil to determine soil pH
- Application rates:
- pH 6 Clay soil: 7Kg /10m2
- pH 6 Sandy soil: 5Kg /10m2
- PH 5 Clay soil: 14Kg /10m2
- pH 5 Sandy soil: 10Kg /10m2
- Work lime down into soil
- For best results place lime close to plant roots
- Best applied in Autumn to allow it break down over Winter months
- Do not over apply & avoid applying near ericaceous plants
